Submit to the search engines:

When you have your website completed and meta-tags inserted, submit your site to as many search engines and directories as you can. Do this every 30 days, because search engines are constantly changing their algorithms and the way they list.

*Note: Do NOT do this in less than a 30 day grace period, otherwise some of the search engines will view you as SPAM & will not list you at all.

*Note 2: Site submissions can generate A LOT of SPAM! Consider an email address specifically for this purpose. There are a lot of free email solutions available (Hotmail & Yahoo are the most common), but remember to delete your emails weekly. If your email box is full, your email will bounce and your submissions may be rejected.

Search engine optimization can actually be one of the best ways to advertise & one of lowest costs if you?re willing to do some of the work yourself. Some simple guidelines for you site are:

* Use keywords in your title.
* Use meta tags and keywords throughout your site.
* Use keywords correctly throughout the text on your pages.

* Use keywords in your URL.
* Concentrate on gaining link popularity.
* Use a crisp, clean design throughout your site for uniformity.
* Avoid SPAM tactics to increase website placement.

If you want to find out what keywords have been searched and their frequency, go to Overture’s Keyword Suggestions type in your keyword ideas, for example: ?gifts?. This will pull up all combinations of words using ?gifts? searched on during the previous month. Use these as ideas for building your own keyword suggestions.

How do I get my site listed on search engines and directories?

Getting listed on search engines is not automatic when your site is live. The SubmitPlus.com service is a great way to first submit your site to search engines. This method is recommended to announce your site even if it is not complete yet.
